Avalara Hawk Tower

NEXUS was contracted by SODO Builders to perform final air barrier testing on the new mixed use dual-tower building located near CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington. The project consists of two (2) high-rise towers, one a 23-story hotel and residential tower and the other a 18-story office building. Both connected at the 8-story base containing a 7-story atrium, meeting rooms, restaurants and banquet facilities. The north Embassy Suites hotel tower is clad in pre-cast concrete and stone and the south office tower has a modern glass curtainwall.

This complex air barrier test NEXUS had undertaken consisted of a single test of both towers of the building. The test was further complicated with tremendous stack effect caused by a +/-40 degree temperature differential between the interior/exterior, towers of two different areas/enclosure areas and limited air flow between the base and the towers. Testing was performed according to the 2009 Seattle Energy Code days before final occupancy permits were required and NEXUS was able to achieve a successful passing test for the owner.
