Volar Barracks Renovation Phases II and III

SCOPE

  • Air Barrier Testing

  • Design

  • Technical Reviews

CLIENT/OWNER:       USACE

ARCHITECT:               BCRA Design

CONTRACTOR:         Walsh Ross Group JV

This project involved the renovation of eight Vietnam-era barracks, varying in size and totaling more than 450,000-sf. NEXUS was contracted to provide technical support for the design and detail of the building envelope and air barrier for all eight structures. This large-scale project required numerous on-site observations during construction. We also assisted with submittal reviews and worked with the contractor as they performed remediation measures to achieve or surpass air leakage requirements.

The configuration of the buildings required that we test the buildings from the outside – we could not be inside the facility during testing. This became difficult as we were challenged with monsoon-style rain conditions, which required us to protect our equipment to ensure that pressure tubes attached to our fans remained dry.

We manually tested each building to control air flow throughout the uniquely configured spaces.
